Someone had to write that

Writing a procedure to pressure test a bunch of tubes has got to be the most boring thing ever. Connect tank to adapter. Connect adapter to tube. Turn tank on until gauge reads 40 psi. Turn tank off. Wait five minutes. Write down the number. Subtract number from 40 psi. Write down delta.

You can not put rinse and repeat in a technical document.

I lied. I think reading this might be the most boring thing ever.

  1. The jellyfish rocks! I think we should lobby for the inclusion of gratuitous jellyfish images in boring procedure manuals.

Why not? I certainly try to liven up my documents with a bit of flowery language (see this post).

    Try it.

Thou shall connect tank to adapter.
Thou shall connect adapter to tube.
Thou shall turn tank on until gauge reads 275.8 kPa.
Thou shall turn tank off and update thy facebook profile while waiting for five minutes.

  4. FT> oh I hear you. Some of the things I have to put into our protocols/SOPs... and repeat repeat and be "specific although not too specific" since if you name something and that isn't at hand - well, then you can't replace it for the process ^^

"First shalt thou find the red power switch on the back of the devine box labeled 10.135.xxx.xx. Then shalt thou press the red power switch, causing darkness to fall upon the box. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then shalt thou press the switch again, and praise me and bask in my devine glory as life is restored!"
